One of the things I like about Manc is you come across the most amazing artwork just totally out of the blue as you turn a corner Like This Trees from cuttings from the oak tree that sir Issac Newton sat under Archimedes leaves his bath In a hurry The Northern Quarter is a part of Manchester, its so seedy its posh if you get my drift They decided that, given the fact that its supposed to be the artistic bit of the city they would insert random art in random places Like the back of this derelict factory, which has this great wall sculpture or the 2 little dwarves who inhabit the side opf this pub. 15 years ago we all walked in for a pint and found semi naked girls walking around and men who would disappear upstairs with a girl for 20minutes..a pub and a brothel.....how can THAT be bad? This is the craft centre, the building that started the resurgence of the Northern Quarter Parts of the area are very chelsea like More random art. A stainless steel roadsweepers brush..With 2 of the seedy bangladeshi cafes in the background. This is Tib Street, It has a iver running underneath it More random art, the side of the building would be safe hiding in a herd of Zebras Manchester has LOADS of pigeons. But these never move For years this was derelict, then they did up the area of the city and the old broken footbridge became a work of art As did the corner of this old building. This is afflecks Palace. One of the major alternative shopping centres. The giant wallflowers are part of the councils policy of random art. As id the little devil More random art along the side of the building And more and ever more The businesses joined in with enthusiasm They inlaid paving stones all the way along the street with a poem about manchester Here are 2 random ones Then we get to the posh city centre bit Ok, the reason I was walking through town was to come here. This is the OK CAFE. For the 20 years or so I have worked in Manchester it was owned by Ken. He was a great bloke. And 2 weeks ago he died. I wanted to drop in a card. Manchester used to have so many of these places, feeding businessmen who had to sit next to alcoholics cos their money was just as good THIS arrived in under 3 minutes,cottage pie, chips, cabbage, peas and gravy....£2.95. They feed thousands of people a week, cheaper than McDonalds and better for you. Thsi is the area round the back streets of the warehouses. You can see why disney want to youe it instead of New York And this is across the road, all the canals were reopened as part of the governments commitment for the year 2000 More warehouses You can just see Starrsky and Hutch driving their car down the street Cant you This is the back street pub I work in on a Friday and Saturday Another view Les, the Landlord And an old picture of it
